Slow Cooker Spicy Dahl                                          Serves 8-10




1 bag of Dried Yellow Split Peas, washed in several changes of water

1 bag of Dried Red Lentils, washed in several changes of water


2 large onions, peeled and chopped

6 cloves of Garlic , grated

1-2 inches of Fresh Ginger Root

2 tsp of ground cardamom

3 tsps of ground cumin

1 tsp ground coriander

1 tsp of cayenne pepper

3 tsp. of Ground Turmeric

Salt and pepper

2 vegetable stock cube

3 mugs of boiling Water

1 mug of cold water

1 tsp. of Olive Oil




Put everything in the slow cooker, stir well.

Set to high, leave for 4 hours.

Check after 2 hours and add more water if needed. Stir well.


Serve with whatever is handy  and that you enjoy; my recommendations are:

quark or yoghurt,

kimchi or chutney

rice and/or – naan or or crackers
